Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions is via the NHS App all prescriptions are sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy – normally a pharmacy near your home.:

For repeat ADHD medication, prescriptions can be requested as above but will only be issued if you have had a blood pressure, weight and pulse recorded in the last six months. See (link to ADHD info) for more details on ADHD medication prescribing

If you are due a review for you medication, please fill out an eConsult or contact reception.

If you require contraceptive prescriptions, these can be requested as above, but we may contact you for additional information. If you require emergency contraception please contact reception as soon as possible.

Vacation

If you return home for the vacation periods you can continue to request prescriptions via the same methods. You will just need to change your nominated pharmacy – this can be done via the NHS app or by calling reception.

Collecting your prescription

Unless you are told otherwise you can usually collect your prescription within 2 working days after making the request.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

Prescription charges

Students who are 19 and over are not eligible for free prescriptions. For help with prescriptions fill in a form HC1 available from chemists and the surgery. You can also print a HC1 form (PDF).

Pharmacies– Pharmacy first

The pharmacy first scheme means you can get advice and treatment for some simple illnesses direct from a pharmacist instead of seeing us at the practice. There are seven conditions pharmacist can treat and prescribe medication for. These include:

As well as the new conditions covered under Pharmacy First, there are many other issues and topics your pharmacist will be able to help you with, these include:

  • Advice on using and disposing of medicines.
  • Aches and pains – such as, back pain, headache and period pain.
  • Accidents – such as, sprains, minor cuts, and grazes
  • Colds, flu and other infections – such as, cough, congestion, fevers and/or temperature.
  • Ear care – such as, ear wax.
  • Eye care – such as, conjunctivitis, styes.
  • Hay fever – which is not controlled by standard over-the-counter treatments.
  • Rashes.
  • Skin problems – such as, athlete’s foot, cold sores, or mild eczema or psoriasis.
  • Stomach aches – such as, constipation, diarrhoea, or indigestion
  • Contraception
  • Blood pressure checks
  • Chlamydia screening and treatment
  • Quitting smoking
  • Cholesterol and blood sugar testing
  • Drug use – including needle and syringe exchange schemes
  • Help on how to manage your weight
  • Some vaccinations
