Vitamin D deficiency

Your recent blood test has shown that you are deficient in vitamin D.

You will need a prescription for a 3 month course of high dose vitamin D capsules. You should then book a repeat blood test after 1 month of being on this treatment. A prescription will be sent to your nominated pharmacy.

Following this, we suggest that you take vitamin D supplements at a dose of between 1000 and 2000 international units/day, during the winter months; these can be purchased from a pharmacist. Some tablets are dosed in micrograms. To convert this to international units, you should multiply the micrograms by 40.

However, you should not take Vitamin D if you have had kidney stones, kidney disease, parathyroid disease or other diseases that resulted in high blood or urine calcium, unless it has been advised by your doctor. In these cases, please book a phone appointment to discuss with your doctor.
