Vitamin D insufficiency

Your recent blood test has shown that you have slightly low levels of vitamin D. At these levels, we would suggest that you purchase Colecalciferol (Vitamin D) supplements from your pharmacist. You should take between 1000 and 2000 international units/day for 3 months.

Please note, some tablets are dosed in micrograms. To convert to international units, you should multiply the micrograms by 40.

However, if you have had kidney stones, kidney disease, parathyroid disease or other diseases that resulted in high blood or urine calcium, you should first discuss this with your doctor.

There is no need for a repeat blood test.

Further advice can be found on the BDA website.
